Social Justice Roundtable

All UCC Ontarians are invited to a pre-election roundtable on guaranteed livable income, harm reduction, housing, and long term care reform. Join us for a fulsome program, with keynote speaker UCC justice advocate and former Moderator Lois Wilson, breakout time hosted by Jeffrey Dale, Rev. Dr. Susan Eagle, Natalie Mehra of the Canadian Health Coalition and the East Central Ontario Regional Council’s  Guaranteed Livable Income (GLI) Network. The evening will wrap up with a summary and ‘next steps’ with former MPP and active United Church member Ted McMeekin.

The Very Reverend The Hon. Lois M. Wilson, CC., OOnt.

We are pleased to welcome our keynote speaker for the evening,  the Very Reverend the Hon. Lois M. Wilson.

Lois Wilson is a minister, author, diplomat, former senator and advocate for human rights in the church, Canadian parliament and the world. Ordained in 1965, her inspiring legacy includes:  First female President of the Canadian Council of Churches (1976-79):  first female Moderator of The United Church of Canada (1980-82):  first woman and first Canadian President of the World Council of Churches. (1983- 1991):  Chancellor Lakehead University (1990-2000): Independent Senator in Canadian Senate. (1998- 2002). She is recognized as a Companion of the Order of Canada, member of the Order of Ontario and received the U.N. Pearson Peace Prize.  She is the mother of four, grandmother to twelve and great-grandmother to nine. Lois continues to inspire us all with her ongoing work for social justice and the common good.
