How Can You Get Involved?
Curious about what our various commissions and committees do? Wondering how you might become more involved in the life of Shining Waters Regional Council? You’re in the right place.
This video series offers a look at the teams that shape the work of the region. Each short video introduces you to a different committee or commission, sharing what they do and why it matters — in their own words.

SW Executive
The Executive usually meets on the first Tuesday of the month between 1 and 4 p.m. on Zoom. Summer meetings and December/January are at the discretion of the chair. The Executive occasionally makes decisions by email between meetings. The Executive has on occasion gathering with the Executive of Canadian Shield Regional Council, in person and/or on Zoom. The total time commitment for the Executive is approximately 25 – 30 hours per year.

Communities of Faith Commission (CFC)
The Communities of Faith Commission usually meets on the third Wednesday of the month between 9 a.m. and 12 Noon via Zoom. Once a year they attend a joint in person meeting with the Pastoral Relations Commission. The CFC also makes decisions between meetings by email vote and these can sometimes be time-sensitive. The commission takes a break over the summer and at Christmas. The total time commitment for the CFC is approximately 25 – 30 hours per year.

Pastoral Relations Commission (PRC)
The Pastoral Relations Commission usually meets on the last Tuesday of the month between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. via Zoom. Once per year the commission meets with the Communities of Faith Commission in person with the option to join by Zoom. The PRC takes a break in July for the summer. The total time commitment for the commission is approximately 20-25 hours per year.

Social and Ecological Justice Commission (SEJC)
SEJC usually meets on the third Tuesday of the month between 1 and 4 p.m. on zoom. Once or twice per year the commission meets in person with the option to join by zoom. Summer meetings are at the discretion of the chair. The commission also makes decisions between meetings by email vote and these can sometimes be quite time-sensitive in response to urgent justice concerns. The total time commitment for the SEJC is approximately 25 – 30 hours per year.

Grants and Mission Support Committee
The Grants and Mission Support Committee meets 6 times a year in January, March, May, June, September and November, usually on a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon between 3 and 4:30 p.m. on zoom. Decisions are also occasionally made by email between meetings. The busiest time for this committee is in the fall when members are reviewing applications and consulting with applicants. These visits usually occur on zoom and can last up to an hour. The total time commitment for this committee is approximately 15 – 20 hours per year.

Licensed Lay Worship Leaders Committee
The Licensed Lay Worship Leaders (LLWL) Committee meets at least bi-annually usually on Zoom, generally between 9 a.m to 12 noon, but may run longer depending on how many people need to be interviewed. They interview and recommend individuals for licensing and re-licensing, ensure required training and policies are met, and provide ongoing support for LLWLs. The total time committement for this committee is approximately 10 – 15 hours per year.

The Nominations Committee usually meets on the second Wednesday of the month via Zoom. The committee takes a break over the summer. The total time commitment for the committee is approximately 15-20 hours per year.

The Nominations Committee is a committee where expertise is gathered, best practices and knowledge retained and individuals are identified to be nominated to the executive, commissions and committees of the region.
