Call for Nominations
OPPORTUNITIES TO OFFER LEADERSHIP
IN THE SHINING WATERS REGIONAL COUNCIL
Online submissions are preferred and will close on May 10, 2019.
Nominations from the floor will be accepted.
As we prepare for the first Shining Waters Regional Council meeting at Georgian College in Barrie from May 24th to May 26th, the Nominations Committee is seeking your support with two important matters.
We envision developing an inventory / database of members’ skills, knowledge and experience to assist the regional council in identifying individuals who might be available to serve in short-term, time-limited roles, such as property liaison, group facilitation or worship planning. Please complete the Interest Form HERE.
We are seeking nominees to fill vacancies on various committees and commissions in the new governance structure. People across the region are invited to express their interest or nominate others who have the gifts to serve in the following leadership roles: President, Past President, Executive, Communities of Faith Commission, Pastoral Relations Commission, Licensed Lay Worship Leaders Committee, Intentional Interim Ministry Committee, Equity Committee, Grant Review Committee and Nominations Committee. The position descriptions for President and Past President are available HERE.
Information about the Executive, the Communities of Faith Commission and the Pastoral Relations Commission is available on the website at https://shiningwatersregionalcouncil.ca/administration/policies/ Details about the other committees will be available on the website soon.
As members of Shining Waters Regional Council, you know the voices who could offer fresh perspectives and insights. This is a time to look not just for members of the church who have been active in former Presbyteries and Conference, but also for those who are skilled and active in local communities. We are excited about the prospect of finding the unheard voices in our midst – new prophetic voices for a new time.
The Nominations Committee is also envisioning the possibility of committees and commissions with a good representation from racialized communities or other groups that have traditionally been marginalized in church decision-making. We are seeking people who reflect the diversity of Shining Waters Regional Council, including but not limited to, cultural and ethnic background, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability, geography and age.
Please share this information widely within communities of faith and across the regional council and prayerfully consider whether you are called to serve in this way at this time in the life of Shining Waters Regional Council. Or, if you know someone who you think would serve us well, please offer their names or invite them to put their name forward. We need your help to find nominees for these positions.
Terms of office for most positions are typically for three years, renewable once. However, since this is the inaugural meeting, the Nominations Committee has implemented staggered terms of one, two and three-years, to allow for new and experienced voices moving forward and to provide for continuity of service. If you, or a candidate you are considering, are interested in a position and are not available to serve this year, we would encourage you to complete the Nominations Form for possible contact next year.
Interested candidates should review the information on the website and complete the Nominations Form HERE
We would appreciate receiving Nominations Forms by Friday April 26 but no later than Friday May 10.
We hope to have a full slate of nominees. There will also be an opportunity for nominations at the regional meeting. These additional nominees will be interviewed by 2 members of the Nominations Committee. From all the nominations received, the Committee will prepare a ballot for election at the regional meeting.
We look forward to hearing from you! See you in Barrie!
Blessings on your discernment.
