Shining Waters Regional Council is an Affirming Region! As a way to extend our commitment to be public, intentional and explicit in our welcome to people of all identities and sexual orientations we invite communities of faith in our region to have a rainbow flag.
About the flag
[6’x3’] The flag includes the colours of the rainbow flag intersected by black, brown and transgender colours. Any community of faith in Shining Waters Region can request a flag, this includes congregations, community ministries, camps, colleges, etc. If you will use it, you can have one. A multi-point pastoral charge is welcome to have one in each church location.
Ideas to Use Your Flag
- Hang it outside as a visible sign of welcome to your church
- Carry it a local pride parade to identify yourself as a part of the region and The United Church of Canada
- Use it as an altar cloth or a frontal
- Hang it as a backdrop for a booth or a table at a community event
- Create a welcoming space in the church with a mini library of queer theology/community connections
