As we make our way as a regional council and experiment with new ways of working, we want to introduce this news bulletin, Currents, one component of our new communication plan which we will share more about in September. From this point forward, an issue of Currents will follow each Executive meeting to share regional news and decisions.
Over the summer our Executive has met three times, June 20, July 24, and August 28, 2019. The minutes as they come available are posted on the website . In the meantime here’s a round up of news.
We are an Affirming Region
Following the approval of our Equity Policy at our regional meeting we have been acknowledged as having interim Affirming status as a region. Over the next year we will create our action plan and grow into becoming an Affirming region. Three members from Shining Waters attended the Affirm United S’Affirmer Ensemble national conference in Calgary, Karen King (College Street United and member of the Equity Committee) and Ren Ito and Susie Henderson (staff).
The Social and Ecological Justice Commission is in place
The Commission policy was approved (it will be available when the minutes are posted) and a call for nominations was issued three times over the summer. There are still two spaces available and the current membership approved for a two-year term is:
Susan Eagle (chairperson)
Alana Martin
Tina Conlon
Donna Lang
Eleanor Scarlett
Lois Brown
Moon Ja Park
Camerson Watts
The Executive is grateful to those who have come forward to offer their gifts to this essential work.
