SUMMARY:West End Affirm Film Festival – Screening of Small Town Pride
DESCRIPTION:Come out wherever you are.\nSmall Town Pride offers an intimate look at the joys and challenges of being queer in a small town. Filmed in Alberta\, Nova Scotia and the Northwest Territories\, the film follows LGBTQ2S+ people and allies as they prepare for their local Pride celebrations. Organizing in church basements\, classrooms and around kitchen tables\, they take on a conservative town council that won’t fly a rainbow flag and bend some rules to create a safe space for youth to come out. But despite experiences of isolation and discrimination\, they love their communities and strive to make them places where everyone\, no matter who and how they love\, can live and thrive. \nDoors open at 6:30pm\, film starts at 7pm.

Clothing for men\, women\, and children will also be available\, offering something for everyone. \nGuests are welcome to enjoy BBQ\, coffee\, and refreshments while connecting with others in a warm and lively atmosphere. \nAll proceeds from the flea market support over 20 charitable organizations\, making every purchase an opportunity to give back to the community. \nDonations of gently used items are gratefully accepted. DESCRIPTION:1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture is a feature documentary that follows the story of tireless researchers who trace the origins of the anti-gay movement among Christians to a grave mistranslation of the Bible in 1946. \nIt chronicles the discovery of never-before-seen archives at Yale University which unveil astonishing new revelations\, and casts significant doubt on any biblical basis for LGBTQIA+ prejudice. \nFeaturing commentary from prominent scholars as well as opposing pastors\, including the personal stories of the film’s creators\, 1946 is at once challenging\, enlightening\, and inspiring. \nFollowing the film screening\, you are invited to stay for a short Q+A with the documentary’s researchers\, Kathy Baldock and Ed Oxford.
