DESCRIPTION:Most of us tend to think of the second half of life as largely about getting old\, dealing with health issues\, and letting go of life\, but the thesis of this book is exactly the opposite. What looks like falling down can be experienced as ”falling upward” in a spiritual\, psychological sense. Rohr argues that in the second half of life we really start to understand what life is about \, who we are\, and what we can give to ourselves and the world to be fully realized people. But few know this path is possible in our modern world that values youth above all else. Join Stephen as we discuss this book together. If you enjoyed the discussions about Michael Singer’s book in the fall\, you will likely find this very interesting\, too. All are welcome\, you don’t need to have read all of Rohr’s book to participate. \nThis event is available on Zoom.

SUMMARY:Medical Assistance in Dying Information Session
DESCRIPTION:Following up from the excellent podcasts that Rev. Roberta Howey has produced on the subject of medical assistance in dying (MAID)\, Rev. Dr. Bacon will be joining Rev. Howey in a ministry forum on the above date. We will be joined by our guest the Reverend Doctor Anne Simmons who brings a wealth of experience in the area of death\, dying and the management of grief. Our plan is to have three brief presentations followed by a Q & A session. \nIn 2016 the Canadian Parliament passed legislation as Bill C-14: An Act to amend the Criminal Code and to make elated amendments to other Acts (Medical assistance in dying). This legislation now guides how such medical assistance can be provided when eligibility criteria and conditions are met. It has increasing implications for spiritual care practitioners and a learning curve that necessarily gives rise to personal discernment as well as associated caution. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Lawrence Park Community Church. \nSmart sermons\, great music\, and a passion for justice. That’s what we’re about. \nWhere are we? Well\, physically we’re located in North Toronto\, in the Lawrence Park neighbourhood\, but we also live\, hang out\, pray\, talk and explore online. We are an affirming congregation\, which means we welcome people of all genders\, sexualities and abilities. \nWe’re a vibrant congregation of people who like to ask questions\, and push our faith to be relevant to life in our times. We like to ask questions\, talk about difficult issues\, and make a difference to our lives and the lives of others. \nLike most churches\, we worship every Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m.. We value smart sermons that wrestle with the Bible and apply it to the modern world in a way that is insightful and useful. We have a great music program\, with live musicians and singers. We broadcast our services from our beautiful\, modern sanctuary\, and we have congregants in house when allowed.
