DESCRIPTION:Everyone is invited to a 6-week Lenten book study. It will be held on Zoom weekly on Mondays from 4:15-5:45pm\, beginning on Monday\, February 19th. It will run until March 25. \nWe will be discussing The Last Week by Marcus J. Borg and John Dominic Crossan. Using Mark’s gospel as a guide\, they present a day-by-day account of Jesus’ final week of life. They intentionally play on the term «passion»\, opposing Jesus’ passion for the Justice of God\, a fair share for all\, against the familiar emphasis on his «suffering» (Passion Week). The concert will take place on June 4 at 2pm at St. Matthew’s United Church (729 St. Clair Avenue West\, Toronto). \nThe New Horizons Band of Toronto is a music education and performance program for adults who wish to play a concert band instrument in a friendly group setting. The NHBT Wind Ensemble showcases our most experienced players. This group performs regularly across the GTA area and plays a mixture of classical\, popular and concert band music. Today’s benefit performance will feature music by Healey Willan\, John Philip Sousa\, Francis McBeth and more! DESCRIPTION:Bloor Street Church is offering a new opportunity for dialogue\, learning\, and community. Midweek Midrash is a dialogue that looks at different kinds of ‘texts’ – such as a Brené Brown podcast\, a movie\, a lecture by someone like Thomson Highway\, or a book. MM will happen on Zoom\, two Wednesday evenings per month (1st and 3rd) at 7pm. She has policy expertise in areas of income security and taxation\, such as child tax benefits\, child support\, maternity/parental benefits\, pensions and social assistance. Her insight also comes from experiencing poverty as a young parent. Sheila is grateful\, in her retirement\, to have resources\, time and health to do volunteer work and help care for twin grandsons.

The event will be recorded and posted to our YouTube channel. \nUpcoming Speakers: \nSunday\, September 25th – Robin Buyers has just confirmed she will kick off our “Making a Difference” Speaker series after worship on Sunday Sept. 25 with a short history of the Noojimo’Iwewin Gitigaan/Healing Garden adjacent to St. Matt’s and how the Indigenous People’s Solidarity Group and community Garden Crew volunteers are modelling how even small urban spaces may become sites of reconnection with Creation and respect for Indigenous spirituality. \nRobin Buyers is a Canadian Queer\, white settler with hidden disabilities. Her roots are in the Ross Clan of Scottish highlands\, Wales\, and England. She has been active in Indigenous solidarity work in the Americas for more than 30 years\, including as a Kairos Blanket Exercise facilitator\, Co-Chair of the Americas Policy Group\, frontline Community Peacemaker Teams Colombia and Turtle Island Solidarity worker\, and Co-founder of Coalition for a Public Inquiry into Ipperwash. She retired as a Community Work Professor at George Brown College in 2016\, and has since focused on neighbourhood and Land-based work with the Indigenous Peoples Solidarity Group (IPSG) and Noojimo’iwewin Gitigaan at St. Matthew’s United Church. She will speak about her evolution as an activist in the Indigenous justice movement\, tell the story of the IPSG and Noojimo’iwewin Gitigaan\, and share the vision of Noojimo’iwewin Gitigaan and the coast-to-coast-to coast National Healing Forest initiative of which it is a part.
