SUMMARY:Rethinking Preaching Conference 2022: Intercultural Preaching
DESCRIPTION:The Centre for Religion and Its Contexts at Emmanuel College and Shining Waters Regional Council are pleased to host the second “Rethinking Preaching’ Conference with this year’s theme\, “Intercultural Preaching.” The challenge of intercultural preaching in the midst of social crises defined by racism\, colonialism\, and ecological crisis has gripped preachers in all parts of the world. What’s more\, online worship and the use of technology are on the rise and have contributed to cultural shifts that challenge long-held assumptions about worship. All prompts us to rethink preaching. The Centre and Shining Waters invite seasoned and new preachers\, students of homiletics\, and participants who seek to “rethink preaching” to join our conference in 2022. \nOur keynote speakers\, Prof. Jerusha Neal (Duke Divinity School) and the Rev. Michael Blair (General Secretary of the United Church of Canada) will be joining us. These special guests along with two responders\, four workshop leaders\, and racialized preachers who engage in intercultural preaching research will help us rethink and explore intercultural preaching for today.

DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, Apr. 27\, 12-3:00pm\nCelebrate spring with Humber Valley’s UCW. After a two-year hiatus due to Covid\, the HV-UCW are eagerly looking forward to hosting our annual spring luncheon and card-playing event again.\nFrom noon to 3:00pm\, there will be fancy sandwiches and sweets\, an afternoon of card playing and a chance to win a door prize. Grab a deck of cards and round up your friends (ladies and gentlemen both welcome) for an afternoon of fun\, fellowship and cards – either bridge\, euchre\, cribbage\, or whatever game your table prefers.\nTickets are $30 – available from Jill Kershaw at the church on Sundays or by leaving a message on the ticket line at 416-231-2263  ext. 39.\nEven if you don’t have a full table of four\, put your name on the waiting list and we will try to find you partners. Masking protocols will be in place.
