DESCRIPTION:The figure of Egerton Ryerson has been vilified as “the architect of the Indian Residential Schools.” But many do not know his history with Mississauga of the Credit or that he was given a Mississauga name in gratitude for his ministry among them. Or that the idea of residential schools had been a matter of public discussion for almost thirty years before Ryerson penned the 1847 letter for which he is arraigned. There is lots to learn! \nProf. Peter Wyatt\, United Church minister and former principal of Emmanuel College\, will bring a PowerPoint presentation on Ryerson in context to the Deer Park Public Library on Saturday\, September 20\, at 2 p.m. The Library is located at 40 St. Clair Ave.\, east of the Yonge intersection.

Both groups were founded as outreach efforts—the Togogos at Bloor Street United Church and the Old Orchard Blossoms at St. Timothy’s Anglican Church—in response to the growing HIV and AIDS crisis in sub-Saharan Africa. Both groups quickly expanded to include women from the community\, united in solidarity with grandmothers and grand-others on the front lines of the pandemic. Now\, 19 years later\, the Togogos and Old Orchard Blossoms mark nearly two decades of dedication and impact. Together\, they have raised over $550\,000 in support of the Grandmothers’ Campaign\, standing as a testament to the power of grassroots activism and compassionate connection.
