DESCRIPTION:For millennia the Winter Solstice — falling this year on December 21\, 2022 — has been celebrated around the world. The word “solstice” is rooted in Latin and means “sun standing still.” At this time we invite you to join us to mark the coming of the Winter Solstice\, a time of transition when the light returns. \nCome\, find the light on the darkest night. \nAll are welcomed to gather at Islington United Church on December 19 for quiet meditation in the Sanctuary\, led by James Aitchison\, at 7:00 pm. \nFeel free to arrive a few minutes early to get settled in. We will finish by 8:00 pm\, allowing some time to digest our experience and share a bit if we like. \nEnter through the Stewart East Hall doors (rear parking lot) or through the Chapel door entrance (front parking lot). \nNo experience or registration is required. Feel free to invite friends and family. Although masks are no longer mandatory\, you are encouraged to wear one if you prefer.

DESCRIPTION:Hi all! \nOur next Worship Walk will occur this Wednesday\, December 7\, 7-8 pm\, at the Barrie Arboretum. This is also the evening of the monthly full moon. The moon will reach its fullness at 11:08 pm\, but we will be back home by then. This one is also known as the “Cold Moon”. So\, as always\, dress for the weather. And bring a flashlight. We will share some Bible readings for Advent and pause during our walk to reflect upon some of the life themes suggested both by the moon and scripture. \nDirections for Arboretum: The Arboretum is found in the North-West corner of Sunnidale Park. As you are driving North-West on Sunnidale\, towards the intersection with Cundles\, the Arboretum will be on your right. SUMMARY:Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol"
DESCRIPTION:Originally written in 1843\, “A Christmas Carol”\, the story of Ebenezer Scrooge\, is a popular and timeless story of transformation and love set in Victorian England. This production is delivered in period costume by experienced “readers” who have been successfully delivering this message for over 20 years. This was originally co-produced with the CBC and presented throughout Simcoe County and York Region. \nWritten in five staves” or chapters\, the individual readers have an opportunity to deliver this ghostly tale with humour\, wit\, and their own personal touch. The Principal Readers are two veterans of this production\, Pastor Robert Murdock and Laurie Lang\, Past President of the Literacy Council of Simcoe County. They will be supplemented by local participants who have an opportunity to “let their creative juices flow”. This performance is not recommended for children under 10 years of age. \nThis production will take place on Saturday\, December 3rd\, 2022 at 7 pm\, and will take approximately 2 hours with an Intermission midway and a chance to sample some Christmas Goodies.
