There’s no pressure\, no follow-up and no charge; it’s just an open\, informal\, and honest space to explore and discuss life’s big questions together. \nOffered IN-PERSON 11 weeks course starting on Wednesday September 20\,2023 – November 29\,2023 from 10:00 to 11:30am at NBUC \nVideo.\nThe videos are designed to be engaging and inspire conversation. DESCRIPTION:Town Hall Info Session\nJoin us on Tuesday\, September 19 starting at 6 p.m. for our town hall information session\, when we will gather on Zoom with our friends from Canadian Shield Regional Council to review and discuss the remit to remove structural barriers to developing and sustaining an autonomous Indigenous Church. Special guest the Rev. Michael Blair\, General Secretary\, will be with us to join in the discussion. \nThis information session is open to all those interested in learning more about the remit vote\, both for your own community of faith’s vote or our regional response. Please register below to attend. \n  \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Regional Meeting to Vote on Remit\nFollowing the information session\, Shining Waters regional members will stay online and vote on our regional response to the remit. We anticipate ending by 8 p.m. \nThis is a Category 3 Remit\, and so requires a vote by every regional council and each pastoral charge’s governing body. If a regional council or a pastoral charge does not register a vote\, that is considered a vote against the proposal. \nThere is one question to be voted on\, as follows: \nDoes the regional council agree to amend the Basis of Union to reflect: \n\nThat The United Church of Canada will be organized as follows (1) a three-council structure\, consisting of communities of faith\, regional councils and a Denominational Council*; and (2) an autonomous National Indigenous Organization; and\nThat once the new autonomous National Indigenous Organization is established within The United Church of Canada\, it will have its own mechanisms to make any future changes to its structure and processes\, and\, therefore will not be subject to the remit process under section 7.4.1 of the Basis of Union**; and\nThe changes required for the establishment of the autonomous National Indigenous Organization.\n\n  \nOnce the regional vote has been completed we will submit the regional response form to the General Council Office. \n  \nFor more information and to register please see our website here.

Doran’s unique sound weaves song and storytelling; the polarity between her music and personality create a harmonious blend of wit and humour contrasted by vulnerable lyricism and haunting melody. \nMoving to Toronto in 2008\, Brooklyn Doran wasted no time building a reputation for herself in the music scene. A natural performer\, audiences were immediately drawn to Doran’s engaging storytelling and emotional honesty. An accomplished saxophonist\, she performed as a session player\, while booking gigs across the city as a solo artist; singing and strumming an old beat-up acoustic guitar that was purchased at a yard sale. \nHer newest record FIXER UPPER is available June 1\, 2023. \n– \nBeach United’s warm\, inviting hall serves as the perfect backdrop for this concert – donations are welcomed\, and proceeds support the Beach United Church food programs.

DESCRIPTION:The Knitting Pilgrim is a Fundraiser for East End United Regional Ministries. \nActor\, writer and knitter Kirk Dunn will be presenting his multidisciplinary one-man show\, The Knitting Pilgrim\, featuring the Stitched Glass tapestries. The show\, which theatre critic Lynn Slotkin called “a stunning piece of theatre… glorious and so moving\,” combines personal storytelling\, image projection and three huge knitted panels\, designed in the style of stained-glass windows\, that look at the commonalities and conflicts of the Abrahamic Faiths: Judaism\, Christianity\, and Islam. It recounts Kirk’s 15-year artistic and spiritual journey handknitting the ambitious project\, and looks at why the faiths struggle to get along today\, the meaning of art\, the hell of grant-writing and the power of love to overcome major obstacles (and minor mishaps). The show premiered at the Aga Khan Museum in 2019\, and has been performed over 55 times across Ontario to acclaim\, with an upcoming tour in Austria and Germany in the summer of 2023.\nAdvance Tickets are $25 or $30 at the door

DESCRIPTION:In Celtic wisdom the sacred is as present on earth as it is in heaven\, as immanent as it is transcendent\, as human as it is divine\, as physical as it is spiritual.\n–John Philip Newell\, Sacred Earth Sacred Soul \nIn 2016\, John Philip Newell began a teaching initiative that is called The School of Earth & Soul. Its purpose is to reawaken awareness of the sacred in all things through the recovery of Celtic wisdom for today and to help translate this awareness into compassionate action. The school follows a three-year cycle of teaching in its annual retreats. Participants may join at any stage in the three-year cycle and attend any of the Earth & Soul venues across the country. \nIn July\, Emmanuel College’s Centre for Religion and Its Contexts is hosting the “Celtic Wisdom 3: Sacred Imagination” retreat\, where participants will be invited to reawaken to the sacredness of the human imagination and compassionate action through the teachings of Alexander John Scott\, George MacLeod and Kenneth White. \nThis commuter retreat includes both teaching and spiritual practice over three days. Each day begins and ends with meditative prayer and chant. John Philip teaches from the wisdom of Celtic prophets over the centuries\, applying this ancient wisdom to today’s most critical challenges. Cami Twilling invites us into spiritual practice bringing our inner attention to the presence of the sacred within us and within all things. In the early afternoon\, there is silence and free time for resting and walking. Our meals are shared in common and on the evening of the second day we have a party to celebrate our time together at the school.
