DESCRIPTION:Summer Music Camp is an amazing\, two-week music camp that runs from Monday to Friday\, August 8 to 12 and August 15 to 19 at Islington United Church\, 25 Burnhamthorpe Road\, Toronto\, Ontario. The camp offers an early childhood music experience for children aged 5 to 7 years\, and either vocal or instrumental (woodwinds\, brass or percussion) opportunities for those aged 8 to 18 years. \nFor campers\, the early-bird rate is $450 until July 1\, 2022. After that\, the regular rate of $500 applies. For LITs\, the program rate is $200. If you have multiple children/youth in the same family\, please inquire about our special family rates. The innovative\, award-winning Tour for Humanity (T4H) project is an integral component of FSWC’s Educational Department. T4H is a 30-seat\, wheelchair accessible\, mobile human rights education center designed to bring FSWC’s programming directly to people across Ontario and beyond. \nThe Tour for Humanity bus is brought to us by Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies and provides a unique\, educational\, and immersive experience on the following topics: \nWorkshop Options\nThe Global Experience (11 a.m. to 12 p.m.)\nThis workshop begins with a screening of a three-part documentary series produced by FSWC entitled The Holocaust\, Universal Genocide and Real World Heroes. The Ten Stages of Genocide are then discussed in relation to the Holocaust and other world genocides\, including Rwanda\, Cambodia and crimes against humanity committed in Ukraine and throughout Eastern Europe under Joseph Stalin’s reign. DESCRIPTION:There will be a gathering for the Autumnal Equinox\, Thursday\, September 22.\nWe will gather at the Arboretum in Sunnidale Park\, Barrie at 8:30 pm.\nBring a flashlight.\nThis meeting will be more of a Holy Hike than our normal Wild Church event.\nThat means that we will be walking slowly through the Arboretum with seven\nstops. During these pauses we will reflect upon the spiritual themes offered by\nthe Fall season.\nWe will also pause at 9:04 pm to welcome the Equinox.\nThe distance travelled will be approximately one kilometre. \nParking – As you are driving NorthWest on Sunnidale Road approaching Cundles you will\nsee the shoulder on your right\, cleared for parking. At this time of day there should\nbe plenty of room. I will be waiting there\, close to the Sunnidale/Cundles intersection. \nDress – As always\, dress for the weather. The event will be recorded and posted to our YouTube channel. \nUpcoming Speakers: \nSunday\, September 25th – Robin Buyers has just confirmed she will kick off our “Making a Difference” Speaker series after worship on Sunday Sept. 25 with a short history of the Noojimo’Iwewin Gitigaan/Healing Garden adjacent to St. Matt’s and how the Indigenous People’s Solidarity Group and community Garden Crew volunteers are modelling how even small urban spaces may become sites of reconnection with Creation and respect for Indigenous spirituality. \nRobin Buyers is a Canadian Queer\, white settler with hidden disabilities. Her roots are in the Ross Clan of Scottish highlands\, Wales\, and England. She has been active in Indigenous solidarity work in the Americas for more than 30 years\, including as a Kairos Blanket Exercise facilitator\, Co-Chair of the Americas Policy Group\, frontline Community Peacemaker Teams Colombia and Turtle Island Solidarity worker\, and Co-founder of Coalition for a Public Inquiry into Ipperwash. She retired as a Community Work Professor at George Brown College in 2016\, and has since focused on neighbourhood and Land-based work with the Indigenous Peoples Solidarity Group (IPSG) and Noojimo’iwewin Gitigaan at St. Matthew’s United Church. She will speak about her evolution as an activist in the Indigenous justice movement\, tell the story of the IPSG and Noojimo’iwewin Gitigaan\, and share the vision of Noojimo’iwewin Gitigaan and the coast-to-coast-to coast National Healing Forest initiative of which it is a part. DESCRIPTION:The discovery of children’s graves on the grounds of a Residential school in Kamloops last summer\, motivated many settler Canadians to learn more about Canada’s relationship with Indigenous nations. Since then\, we have worked to learn the Truth about the anguish our government’s actions have created and the many promises made and broken.\nLearning the Truth leads us to question how we might Reconcile.\nIn 2021\, a group of leaders – Indigenous and Settler – acting on their commitment to create a more respectful and just relationship\, came together to answer that question. They created the Citizens Group for the 1% Indigenous Peoples Fund and have created a proposal that would serve to help Settlers and Indigenous people move into a more just and equitable relationship in a very concrete way – a way beyond words and gestures.\nRoyal York Road United Church will honour the second National Day of Truth and Reconciliation with a workshop on their proposal.\nPlease join us for an online session with one of the members of the Citizens Group\, Harry Oussoren. During this session participants will be challenged to:\n• Acknowledge their own biases\n• Be open to uncomfortable conversations\n• Share their feelings and experiences honestly\n• Set goals for breaking negative patterns in their lives\n• Express their emotions in a creative format\n• Become more empathetic \nMatthew Jones\nMatthew Jones also known as “Testament” is a connoisseur of anything and everything involving words. From poetry\, spoken word and emceeing to facilitating\, hosting and keynoting\, Testament has been using his natural speaking abilities to inspire audiences for over 15 years.
