August 14, 2020 @ 9:00 am - August 15, 2020 @ 7:00 pm
Free
What is the Christian Left? This is a significant question that leads to more questions. Is there an intersectional relationship between the political, social, and theological when a Christian is defined as “left?” What is the relationship between the Christian left and the institutional church?
This online conference will feature an international roster of presenters on 11 panels over two days on anti-imperialism, climate justice, LGBTQ+ rights, anti-racism, anti-poverty, and more!
The keynote Ernest Crossley Hunter Memorial Lectureship will be delivered by Dr. Joerg Rieger, founding Director of the Wendland-Cook Program in Religion and Justice, Vanderbilt University. He is also Distinguished Professor of Theology and the Cal Turner Chancellor’s Chair of Wesleyan Studies.
Rev. Dr. Cheri DiNovo, C.M., Minister at Trinity-St. Paul’s United Church, will be presenting a talk on “Jesus, the True Communist.”
Hosted by Trinity-St. Paul’s United Church, Emmanuel College’s Centre for Religion and Its Contexts, Toronto Mennonite Theological Centre, and EDGE: A Network for Ministry Development.
